THE HONG KONG WEEKLY PRESS &
RACE FANS PROVIDED WITH EXCELLENT SPORT
CONNAUGHT HANDICAP
(1ST SECTION) King's Lead (Mr.
Norman Deitz) fulfilled expectations when he came in first in the Connaught Handicap but he only just did it as Boolat Bay (Mr. D. Black) was a neck behind. The third pony was Soldier of China (Mr. B. L. Tao) while Mr. H. C. Pih on Bistre was fourth.
The race was very open and though it was evident after the field had come into the straight that King's Lead would win, little did his followers guess that he would be challenged SO strongly.

Discovery Bay (Mr. Donald Black) set the pace and she look- ed a certain winner until she faded out of the picture when the field came into the home stretch. Mr. Pih's mount was running very well up to the Village Bend. It then dropped back-but only for a spell for after the Distance Post it came through with a fine burst of speed to win comfortably.

KWANGTỤNG HANDICAP
Mr. H. C. Pih scored his second successive win of the day when he rode Plain View in fine style in the Kwangtung Handicap to win by a head from Valorous (Mr. Y. T. Fung). Coronation Day, with Mr. W. G. Poy up, was a good third, only a neck behind the second pony.
It was a somewhat difficult race to follow, due to the bigness of the field-there were 15 starters -but Mr. Pih kept his mount in
a
good position and when the field came into the straight he gave Plain View its head and she finished with a fine burst to gradually work her way up to the first place.

CONNAUGHT HANDICAP
(2ND SECTION)
The last race of the day was over 14 miles and attracted eight starters, and when the field was sent away King's Bounty (Mr. W. H. S. Davis) took the lead which it
maintained till the Football Club corner when overtaken by Laughing Buddha (Mr. W. G. Poy) who only kept his lead up till the Quarter-mile Post when Amberley (Mr. Y. T. Fung,), which had been running in the middle of the field, took over the lead. This was, however, shortlived for Mr. Poy again sent his mount to the lead and this time he kept it till he passed the Post to win comfortably from Night View (Mr. H. C. Pih) which had, in meantime, caught up with leaders. Amberley (Mr. Y. T. Fung) was third.
